Jacky Russell
Textile Artist
Profile
Jacky has spent her lifetime drawing and painting and has a history of various illustrative artworks, including commissioned watercolours and caricature pieces. Art has merged with her other love of traditional and contemporary needlework, through her completion of the HE Diploma in Stitched Textiles in 2006, at East Berkshire College, Windsor, where she gained a distinction.
Her current work is inspired through a fascination of the beauty within decay, fading paintwork, peeling plaster and crumbling brickwork found in Venice and Southern Italy especially. Using ‘Lutradur’ and hand dyed natural fibres, surfaces are machine stitched and heat treated with the addition of surface and texture paints. The layering of fabrics, stitching and corroding back create dimensional surfaces, one each hiding the other. Her design work begins through sketch and collage leading to innovative books, three dimensional forms and wall pieces.
