Sharon Baugh
Textile Artist

Profile

Originally an Environmental Chemist Sharon took a lifelong interest in fabric and thread on to complete both City &Guilds Embroidery Parts I and II.  After spending time in the Advanced Workshop at East Berks College she graduated from Buckingham and Chilterns University College in 2006 having completed the Higher Education Diploma in Stitched Textiles.

Sharon’s work is predominantly based on the intangible qualities that make us human; hope, faith, memories, dreams etc. Textile pieces are linked by a continuing fascination with light, shadow and projection, the way the interrelation of these elements with layers of fabric can alter the viewed textile surface.

At present Sharon’s work is concerned with memories; the way they build and layer to make us the people we are and the often mundane items we keep to remind us of a person, time or place. Shibori techniques are combined with dye, lighting and manipulation to produce unusual, three dimensional textile surfaces and compositions.

Sharon continues to harbour a love of colour and hand stitching and hopes that these in combination with the contemporary Shibori techniques she employs will take her work on a new and exciting journey.
