Liz Heywood
Textile Artist

Profile

After studying History and English at University , Liz trained as a primary school teacher and still continues to teach. However, she is now working part-time to enable her to devote more time to stitched textiles.

Most of her work has been in quilts. Whether geometric, pictorial or abstract the most important factor is colour. While she continues to make quilts she has also become interested in other forms of stitched textiles. In the last few years she has experimented with a range of media. The inspirations for her work are the life cycle of plants, decay, African masks and African sculpture.

All her work is developed from drawings in sketchbooks. At the present time she is working on pieces that combine knitted wire, paper, paper pulp and machine embroidery.
