Linda Gleave
Textile Artist

Profile

Having gained a Fashion/Textiles degree, Linda worked in the textiles industry as a knitwear designer for several years.

Following this she qualified to teach in Further Education at Leicester South Fields College in the Fashion and Visual Studies departments.
This involved teaching a range of students from school age to adult learners, over a wide range of courses of different levels up to pre-degree Foundation, for entry to B.A. (Hons) design courses. She also began to design, make and market individual knitted garments during this period.

Through working with the students, her work developed towards drawing and fine art, including botanical illustration, which she continues to pursue.

The opportunity to combine these skills with her interest and experience in textiles led her towards a Diploma in Stitched Textiles. Since completion of the Diploma, Linda now focuses on producing textile art pieces and has exhibited her work in galleries across the UK.

Her personal work demonstrates an interest in landscape and the natural world through her travels in this country and abroad. She draws and paints either from direct observation or photographs and manipulates the resulting imagery using printing techniques and hand and machine stitch.

Her aim is to capture the effects of light on the landscape and the fragility of the earth through both colour and monochromatic images, the application of simple stitches and dry felting. Creating a sense of movement is also an integral part of depicting the subject matter which is often only observed fleetingly.

Current work continues this exploration of landscape and seascapes from observation of the changing seasons.
